PISD Staff Attends Professional Development January 6th
On Monday, January 6, Palacios ISD students enjoyed one more day of Winter Break while the PISD staff attended professional development focusing on student achievement and the safety and security of our students and staff. Representatives from the Assessment Division of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) traveled to Palacios to train PISD staff on the newly-developed STAAR Interim Assessments. These are free, optional online tools for school districts. PISD uses the STAAR Interim Assessments to monitor progress and predict student performance on the STAAR test. Administrators and educators learned more about the value of the interim assessments and how they can be used for benchmarking at the campus and district level. They also received in-depth technical instruction on how to use the online reporting suite to leverage the tool for the benefit of PISD students. Not only was the training attended by all PISD campus administrators and teachers of the tested areas, but representatives from Tidehaven ISD joined the morning session. This summer, Governor Greg Abbott signed a law requiring all Texas public school personnel to participate in Stop the Bleed training. It also mandates that schools install bleeding control kits in easily accessible areas of the campus. PISD staff attended this training and were provided opportunities to practice using components of the bleeding control kits.
