Members began the event by Skyping with Ms. Sarah Beasley, a 3rd year Computer Science major at Texas A&M – College Station. She spoke about how she came to love computer science, why she chose A&M, and what she wants to do with her degree, which is go into the defense field. Following this talk, Power GRID girls did a variety of engineering based activities. They learned basic Java programming to play games, used engineering and problem solving to build the tallest tower and to construct something they were unable to see based only on their team members drawings, and used logic to complete an obstacle course and a human puzzle. The event was a great success that brought together both groups for a time of fun, learning, and mentoring.
